The military's roots are deep, very deep, in San Antonio. Their seeds were sown nearly 300 years ago when what's now Texas belonged to Spain. The San Antonio de Bejar Presidio, built in 1718, quickly became a fort from which the Spaniards could protect their territory in the New World.
